Biography

Amber Hartwell obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree from Okanagan University College. She completed a post-degree program in secondary education from the University of Victoria and her Master of Education degree in educational technology from the University of Calgary. Her study, “Learning Designs using Flipped Classroom Instruction”, was published in the Canadian Journal of Learning and Technology. In 2016, this article received the journal’s Editor’s Best Article award. She recently completed her Doctor of Education through the University of Calgary. Her EdD research focused on impact of ERT on digital technology use in K-12 teacher practice. Her dissertation is available on PRISM.

Amber has teaching experience in both the K-12 British Columbia and Alberta school system, and has experience as a research assistant, teaching assistant, and sessional instructor in post-secondary. In her various roles, she has been responsible for the transformation of libraries to library learning commons and coordinated Indigenous education opportunities including elder classroom visits, land-based learning opportunities, and nsyilxcən language lessons. In 2019, Amber was nominated for the Prime Minister’s Award in STEM education.
